A NEW BABY AND EVERYBODY’S WORKING FROM HOME, A DRAB RENTAL GETS FUNCTIONAL AND FIERCE

This art collecting couple with their first baby on the way, wanted a space that was child friendly but could be great for entertaining with toys and the clutter of working from home out of sight. The space had to feel peaceful, comfortable and would not distract from the growing art collection. Their Upper East Side apartment was large and full of light, but the downside was that it was a rental with a popcorn ceiling and parquet floors; both could not be touched. How do you distract from those elements and fully furnish 1600 sqft space when most of the budget has been allocated the art collection?

The first step was creating a living room that was easy to maintain with ample toy and file storage to maintain an adult atmosphere. Next was comfortable furniture and a large enough dining table to seat 8-10 people. An awkward corner of the living room became an office. Another desk and long low storage cabinet became an office in the spa like master bedroom,. The baby’s room was not only transformed into a fluffy, cosy hideaway, but was able to be transformed into a guest room with a crib on wheels that could be rolled into the living room or master as needed.
